Wonderful Weekends (State Portrait of the Shahbanou of Perlistan)

The ousted monarchy of Perlistan maintained one of the most outrageously opulent courts in the world. Due to Perlistan's wealth in natural resources, especially in gold, silver and precious stones the Imperial Family had access to jewellery beyond imagination. As the popularity of Royalty and the history they represent has increased in the last decade since the 96 Revolution, more democratic nations with a Royal past have shown interest in resuscitating some of the historic aspects if not restore their monarchies entirely. Perlistan ousted their Shah based on religiously motivated politics just after the 96 Revolution. The Imperial Family was merely exiled and have lived in luxury abroad. A level of tense amicability still exists which has now been challenged by the current pretender, Shahbanou Farah being invited for a photo shoot of unprecedented importance. This photo shoot, follows in the slip stream of a similar one done a few weeks ago in Ruskiana. It seems a new wave of Royal popularity is sweeping the world.

The Muscat Government of Perlistan has asked the Shahbanou, eldest daughter of the last Shah to boost the image of the nation and its history by posing in what would have been her coronation outfit had she become Empress. The government hopes this strengthening of friendship will also boost their International image and prestige. The Shahbanou has graciously accepted the kind opportunity to serve her country. All exile regulations imposed on her family have been lifted and will remain so as long as no political moves are made by the former Imperial Family.

Wearing the Crown Emerald Parure and the Coronation Dress made entirely from emerald beads the Shahbanou poses for this historic picture which is a hairline away from what could be considered a Coronation State Portrait. It is mind boggling to consider an entire dress made from emeralds, in cost and weight to wear. We might see the Shahbanou represent her country more and more and that in an increasingly official role. Perhaps the dress might get a proper outing at an official Royal event in future.

The Crown Emerald Parure, made from silver, gold, emeralds and yellow diamonds, is of distinctly non-Europan design. It shows forth the former wealth and level of artistry displayed at the former Imperial Muscat Court.

  2. That crown looks great up against her dress but it the necklace that sets it off nicely.
